I have decided to remove the nofollow attribute from the comment author’s url. Since the blog is very young, I have so far recieved only a hand full of spam comments. Hence I decided to use the wordpress plugin DoFollow. I hope this will encourage visitors to start commenting on the posts.
I hope this decision will not be misused and abused. If that occurs, then I will rethink whether or not to continue with this.

Congrats on going the nofollow way Joyce. I did try it once earlier, but I felt I could get comments of better quality by not using it and adding the top commentators plugin instead.
I too have concerns about the comment quality. I will try my best to moderate the comments, but if it becomes unmanageable, then I may go back to nofollow. I hope that it won’t be needed.

The are solutions to help you moderating comments. Spam Karma and Bad Behavior are great plugins to help you out.
Do follow is a wise choice for any blogger, but particularly for the new blogger who is looking for some exposure to your site. Looks like this is working for you judging by the number of comments already received and the fact that your page is on StumbleUpon. Best wishes with your blog.
The Do Follow is a good think , and having the “U comment , I follow” icon will encourage people to post comments. I would moderate the comments a little, to make sure spammers don’t get their evil way. 😉
I have found out something else too. The best thing to do to increase comment is to post regularly. Without regular posting, there won’t be regular posts and hence less comments.

But that is just not enought. Post comments on other blogs in your niche. Then you will find your comment count increasing.
